MOVING PICTURES

 

Following on from ‘TO THE EDGE’, the film about my father, landscape painter Oliver Heywood, I have been making landscape films – of waves, trees, aconites, fungi and many other things. Dad would interpret a view with his sketchbook – I am attempting something similar with my camera. These films are non-verbal, and a big step away from my documentary working life. Rather than overlaying films about nature with words and facts, I think it’s time for us to try to listen to nature on its own terms.

An Arts Council England project in 2022 culminated in MOVING PICTURES, an exhibition of film at The Three Storeys Gallery, Nailsworth, Gloucestershire.

 
 

As a sequel to Moving Pictures, I screened a selection of landscape films, THE STILL POINT, at the Stroud Film Festival 2023. More exhibitions and screenings are planned for the future.
